an explanation of my scoring system
I initially used a homemade 10.000 scale that scored albums out to the thousandth place decimal; this was inspired by and a mockery of the famous Pitchfork 10.0 music review system. Oddly enough, or perhaps not so, this became unwieldy and surprisingly restrictive in a way.
So somewhere around episode ~250, I abandoned that in favor of a more traditional 1-10 bags of 🍿 scale.
I thought long and hard about these tiers so I'd like to now share a condensed explanation of those long and hard thoughts; without further ado, the tiers:
SCORE: 10 – STONE COLD ALL-TIME CLASSICS
"Simply put: the best movies ever made."
SCORE: 9 – EXCELLENCE IN FILMMAKING
"As good as it gets without being the best of the very best."
SCORE: 8 – VERY GOOD MOVIES!
"These movies are like a solid B+ if not an A- if you like letters instead of numbers."
SCORE: 7 – SOLID BUT SOMEWHAT FLAWED
"But you know: still pretty good!"
SCORE: 6 – OK, SURE
"Not super likely to watch again but for the most part not unenjoyable."
SCORE: 5 – OK *AT BEST*
"Just barely past the threshold of what I can recommend in good faith."
SCORE: 3 / 4 – NOT GOOD / NOT GOOD AT ALL
"Bad films but there might be a little something there (4) or not (3)."
SCORE: 1 / 2 – SHITTY
"From mostly shit (2) to the completely unwatchable (1)."
SCORE: 0 – EGREGIOUSLY TERRIBLE
"These films aren't just unwatchable, but offensively atrocious for various reasons."
