🎙️ EPISODE 411: 03.01.22

𝐏𝐚𝐫𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝟏𝟎-𝐕𝐨𝐥𝐮𝐦𝐞 RANKING GREENAWAY 𝐒𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐬

When he's at his best, Greenaway's work feels timeless. A Walk Through H feels as though we've been dropped straight into the psychosis of a slightly insane intellect's scattered thoughts. What I'm saying is that I believe the passage of time hasn't had any effect on the interpretation of this art: a pastiche of drawings and paintings (maps) made by the man himself, stock or found footage looking material of wild birds, and a narration not so much tying things together as doing the polar opposite of that. One could focus on the meaning of this all day, but what I found more interesting is that the meaning (whatever it is) remains so singular that it is forever unchanged. There's no reading of this in the 21st or 22nd century that would or could be any more nuanced than in 1978.
