This is to say that yes the master, Garth Jennings, has done it again and we forgive him for the proliferation of this most notable google image result. We owe him this much. For rare is the singular voice in the land of kids cinema, animated or otherwise. This being a genre where it is not uncommon to have upwards of six screenwriters on the clock and two directors, and often an end product which feels like it. Maybe this movie (this franchise!) which relies so heavily on a bombardment of current pop music hits could have been written by a primate and been equally successful. That the surrounding story has focus, a purpose and is engaging such as it is, well, that's more than just a bonus or an afterthought. That means a lot for a parent slugging an IPA on the big leather seats, sucking in the latest and greatest variant of that famous coronavirus, COVID-19. That means everything.

Sing 2 is a 2021 American computer-animated jukebox musical comedy film produced by Illumination and distributed by Universal Pictures. It is the sequel to Sing, the film was written and directed by Garth Jennings, co-directed by Christophe Lourdelet, and stars the ensemble cast consisting of Matthew McConaughey, Reese Witherspoon, Scarlett Johansson, Taron Egerton, Tori Kelly, Nick Kroll, Jennings, Peter Serafinowicz, Jennifer Saunders, and Nick Offerman, reprising their roles from the first film. The sequel also features new characters voiced by Bobby Cannavale, Pharrell Williams, Halsey, Chelsea Peretti, Letitia Wright, Eric André, Adam Buxton, and Bono. Like the previous film, Sing 2 features songs from many artists, most of which are performed diegetically. The story is set after the events of the previous film, where Buster Moon and his group put on a show in Redshore City while working to impress an entertainment mogul and enlist a reclusive rock star to perform. It was released on December 22, 2021.
