🎙️ EPISODE 512: 07.18.22 Ozark had one of the strangest and steepest declines I can recall a TV show ever going through. I'll never rewatch it, and it feels like a million years ago, but Season 1 had its charms. Perhaps it was the intrigue in seeing Jason Bateman do drama, though this wears off as soon as you realize he only possesses one speed for any genre. Perhaps it was the looney plot: the criminal tendencies of a mild-mannered dad from Chicago boil over, infects his entire family as they move to some place called "The Ozarks" which I think is in Arkansas maybe? It's not important. It could be anywhere and that this show is named after a place it doesn't seem to care about at all is pretty much par for the course. It was never a very sleek show. It attempted to have some style, some personality. Those four little drawings which began each episode...

What do you think? That they hold some deeper meaning and aren't just literally: STUFF THAT IS SEEN OR HAPPENS IN THIS EPISODE YOU'RE ABOUT TO WATCH? They're kind of the perfect example for why this show ultimately sucks. It wants to be so high-minded but it's doing prestige TV cosplay. And these little symbols, which I tried to ignore ("ooh a coffee pot" **ten minutes** "ah yes, there is a coffee pot"), did end up being symbolic in the long run. Symbolic of rote failure, absent creativity, placeholders for where something of actual value maybe, possibly, in some other life, could've gone. If only.

Ozark is an American crime drama streaming television series created by Bill Dubuque and Mark Williams for Netflix and produced by MRC Television and Aggregate Films. The series stars Jason Bateman and Laura Linney as Marty and Wendy Byrde, a married couple who move their family to the Lake of the Ozarks for money laundering. Bateman also serves as a director and executive producer for the series. The best character is easily this guy named Sam played by Kevin L. Johnson. It was released on July 21, 2017.
