🎙️ EPISODE 534: 08.17.22

This is obviously very bad and looks like very bad despite the kitchen-sink editing in post-production. On some level, however, I appreciate these weird freaks simply being weird freaks, which seems to be both what the movie literally is and what it's meant to represent, which is redundant and ultimately proved irksome at 107 minutes long. There's at least one, brief interlude shot in Super 8 that made me wish the whole thing looked like that; that wouldn't solve the length issue, but it would've tackled the aesthetic one. Also, it's damn near impossible to do a narrative-style feature in this manner with little to no dialogue. If we're meant to appreciate this as anything more than an experimental work (and we don't NEED to do this) then a little more effort is needed in terms of it making sense, as the viewer constantly gets the feeling that this makes sense to SOMEBODY.
This is like lo-fi Jodorowsky and that isn't a compliment, unfortunately. The decision to costume almost the entire in cast in cheap paper and store-bought rubber masks is another one I just couldn't get past. Maybe everyone is wearing masks so they can't really be associated with this movie? I kid, I kid. I can't recommend this but it's floating on YouTube if you wanna check it out. Shout-out to Todd Tobias, the musician, and his work with the Bob Pollard offshoot, Circus Devils. The music is the entry point and, in the end, the best part.
