🎙️ EPISODE 664: 03.14.23 The first film by American Psycho director Marry Harron is a fairly safe biopic about the woman who shot Andy Warhol. It's as "safe" as said movie about said topic could ever hope to be. I won't get into the merits of telling this story from this perspective (I touched on that in the podcast). Lili Taylor is pretty great in the lead role and Jared Harris is one of the better on-screen Warhols you'll ever come across. There are a host of other fun characters and performances (Stephen Dorff plays transgender icon Candy Darling) and I'll watch anything set in late 60s NYC, honestly. I'm thinking about how this is probably somebody's favorite movie and how that person is likely a weird individual and I think that's alright. I am trying to find comfort in that thought. If you can find comfort (if not peace) in any thought, you're doing OK I think.

I Shot Andy Warhol is a 1996 biographical drama film about the life of Valerie Solanas and her relationship with the artist Andy Warhol. The film marked the feature film directorial debut of Canadian director Mary Harron. The film stars Lili Taylor as Valerie, Jared Harris as Andy Warhol, and Martha Plimpton as Valerie's friend Stevie. Stephen Dorff plays Warhol superstar Candy Darling. John Cale of The Velvet Underground wrote the film's score despite protests from former band member Lou Reed. Yo La Tengo plays an anonymous band that is somewhat reminiscent of the group. It was released on January 20, 1996.
