MOVIE #1,288 • 🍿🍿🍿🍿🍿 • 12.20.23

This short Canadian TV movie is best known for being the debut role of comic legend Jim Carey. It was actually retitled after Carey’s success and while he’s a major part, he’s not the main character. That would be Janet (the original title was “Introducing… Janet”). Janet is played by Adah Glassbourg, and where this also marked her debut performance, it doubled as her end. She never acted again. And that’s a shame because she’s not bad playing the awkward teen who befriends Carey, the aspiring stand-up/busboy Tony Maroni (lol).

I appreciated her frenetic nerdy energy…

While there’s definitely room for Carey to do his crazy guy schtick, this is way more serious (in an after-school special kind of way) than I anticipated. It’s only 48 minutes and floating around on YouTube if you’re intrigued but it’s not essential viewing outside of the curiosity of seeing a very young Carey start to hone his, umm, craft…
