Released months after INLAND EMPIRE and shot on similar grade DV, it marks the beginning of a late period netherworld where he’s technically not released a new feature. In the ensuing fifteen years he would continue to work, exploring various forms and formats, but it’s easy to see this — David steering a boat from light into darkness, set to poetic narration by his fourth wife Emily Stofle — as a disembarkment into yet another wild. |
