SUZAN PITT 🕳️ DIRECTOR FOCUS

The evolution of Pitt’s work stylistically is really nice to see. There's clearly a through-line but her willingness to deploy new techniques, both in terms of aesthetics and also storytelling, is clear and very effective. This — after a 15+ year break — is still surreal and playful but it's also more brooding and morose, and while any dialogue and voice work is still absent, there seems to be a more concrete narrative. There's something beautiful in seeing a Mickey-esque Mouse coming alive to resurrect a woman who's committed suicide. Even if, beyond that, I don't totally get what's going on (and that's OK — I'm still thining about it). Easily her best film yet.
