It’s a fragmentary look at female adolescence in the age of Beatlemania and it’s also the most experimental work Campion has likely ever made (it ends with a musical sequence). Despite its audacious leanings, it still manages to capture that awkward feelings of pre-teens entering puberty and how the stress of family drama leads to isolation and acting out.
