C'est La Vie

MOVIE #1,619 • 🍿🍿🍿🍿🍿🍿🍿🍿 • 05.10.24
This is extremely similar in tone and form to 2014’s Basically. We see a homeless man monologuing directly to the camera about life as a homeless man (and other socio-political topics, like smartphones!) in various wide-shots all around the city of Los Angeles. It turns out he's a serial killer and a former candidate for mayor. It's the pure Id given the reigns, equally reactionary and absurd, which is totally one-note. But it works because these locations are great and the performance by Bradley Fisher is strong. Probably his best short film. And that concludes our journey through the Ari Aster filmography for now. There's nothing I would call 'must-see' in this collection of eight early shorts that all preceed his feature film work, but they're definitely interesting if you're a fan.
