MOVIE #1,776 • 🍿🍿🍿 • 07.02.24
The second entry in today’s TWO 4 TUESDAY, the wild card movie, released in the same year, was quite literally a snooze. I think it put me to sleep within the first half-hour, a big rarity for me (I almost never fall asleep watching something). I should’ve picked a better “Limbo” (as there’s plenty to pick from) but the allure of reviewing two films from 1999 for 24T was too strong. John Sayles is a weird director: I think the kids would probably call him ‘mid’. He’s probably equally known for his work as a screenwriter, having penned scripts for big-time mainstream directors like John Frankenheimer, Joe Dante and Lewis Teague (of Alligator fame). I watched his Eight Men Out on VHS, a baseball movie, when I was a kid and remember thinking that was ‘high cinema’ when I was like 11. But I simply don’t have time for this…

There's nothing worse than when you're going for a naturalistic vibe and it just falls completely flat.

I wound up skipping to the final fifteen minutes and Kris Kristofferson was apparently running drugs with a helicopter or something? Who cares, honestly. Not for me. (Giving it a generous 3/10 because I only watched about ⅓ of it)
