 | MOVIE #1,922 • 🍿🍿🍿🍿🍿🍿 • 08.22.24 I penciled this in erroneously, thinking that Jane Schoenbrun directed one of the anthology shorts. But they only served as executive producer on this project. But I was glad I watched it, as it was really well-made (was expecting something more lo-fi for some reason) with an interesting set-up — five filmmakers turn each others' dreams into short films — that explains it all: were literally dealing with dream logic here, which is cheap on some level (i.e., a bit too much weirdness for weirdness’s sake/anything goes mentality). But I think the filter of filmmakers working with other peoples' dreams works in its favor. Some are more successful than others but that's to be expected, though they all fit as a collection and the tongue-in-cheek framing device is also enjoyable. |
