Many moons ago, I watched exploitation master Frank Henenlotter's delirious Frankenhooker and was immediately hooked. I tackled the Basket Case trilogy last spooky month (2023) and decided to fill in the gaps this year to complete another filmography series. He's only made six fiction features over the last forty+ years and that's a shame, because his movies hit a sweet spot of comic horror. There at once messy and somehow loving polished in the realm of their fierce DYI aesthetic. Henenlotter's also an important film historian and has been a part of three documentaries that I also watched: Herschell Gordon Lewis: The Godfather of Gore, That's Sexploitation! and Boiled Angels: The Trial of Mike Diana.
