MOVIE #1,155 • 🍿🍿🍿🍿🍿🍿🍿🍿 • 09.20.23

I have no idea where I came across this: an 80-minute long experimental film featuring 65 mostly static shots of people, places, things. The filmmaker (James Benning) is prolific and still working into his sixth decade. This is slow cinema in its purest form and it isn’t for everybody as much as it’s for anybody. You can appreciate this on a conceptual level without actually admitting that sitting for over an hour watching isn’t anything but a horrible bore. This is a document, a time capsule for whatever it is you’re seeing on screen. And these moments, real or contrived, beautiful or ugly, are just as important as any other image, concrete or imagined.
