 🍿🍿🍿🍿🍿🍿🍿 | 🎙️ EPISODE 282: 07.16.2020 This is not a mockumentary (despite what Wikipedia is suggesting at the moment) but it certainly feels in line with Christopher Guest's near perfect trio of films in that genre. It's departure from that format might at first feel like what's wrong, why this ultimately lacks resonance, but I don't think that's it. The usual gang is mostly all here (± a few) and for the first hour or so here, everything's going along great; the comedy is right on par with what we've come to expect. But the final act (a "3 months later" time jump) is completely unearned. Most of the characters go off the deep end, hitting a level of "over the top" I didn't think possible. While Guest's entire career has been based on exaggerating people, he took it too far here. It just stopped being funny. |
