UglyDolls is... something. UglyDolls is... a movie. Yes. I watched it on Hulu. My daughter latched onto this in a rare way for her. She said she liked it better than Onward and Frozen II, which is heresy, but dem da breaks y'all. It is not "good." The stylization of the title is worth a straight-up Z E R O (for its lack of a space). It is a musical with 15% of one song being good in a highly derivative way, and 100% of the rest being throwaway trash. But it has a good message (you don't have to be perfect, y'all!). As a human adult, I felt that this message was presented in the most garbled, mush-mouthed of ways, but... BUT... it resonated with my daughter. It had a positive effect on her, both inwardly (sense of self) and outwardly (how she interacts with the world). That's really great! So, in summation my daughter both loved it and learned valuable lessons which had "sticking power" taboot. This is what we in the Dad World call a "double whammy." If it had done neither of these things I would have never reviewed it in the first place. Thus negating it, leveling it to some score worse than Z E R O... such a fate... such a fate. |
