MOVIE #1,047 • 🍿🍿🍿🍿🍿 • 07.04.23 Happy 4th of July! In honor of the holiday, I bring you a double feature of mostly subpar American movies that both begin with the words “In the…” Why?“ HAHAHA. You ask WHY? Without getting too into the weeds here re whether or not all the time travel rules totally make sense, I will say that I appreciated that this movie did its best as far as making the plot mostly make sense (even the racial protest segment — which seemed so obnoxiously shoehorned in for no reason at the time — ends up playing into the bigger narrative). Although, the Civil War analogy suggesting that the Civil War was unnecessary (?!) in a film that needlessly played with contemporary racial politics is a wild position! So, yeah, it doesn’t totally come together to say the least, but they tried. |
He did redeem himself with that "Okay” a little bit though — Hey, at least he was trying, which you can’t say for the rest of the cast. What I’m trying to say is kudos to the cast of Mare of Eastown, maybe? Kudos is probably the wrong word.
