This is billed as an “absurdist comedy” but I didn’t get that at all. Hardly a whiff of humor, honestly. But I still really liked it. Writer-director Amalia Ulman also stars alongside her IRL mother in this drenched-in-malaise black-and-white slow burn that clocks in at under 80 minutes. Interesting ending involving Martin Scorsese switches to color. I thought this took place in Italy when it began (because I’m dumb) but it’s Spain.
