🍿🍿🍿🍿🍿🍿🍿🍿 | 🎙️ EPISODE 416: 03.08.22 𝐏𝐚𝐫𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝟏𝟎-𝐕𝐨𝐥𝐮𝐦𝐞 RANKING GREENAWAY 𝐒𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐬 Darwin is a very interesting entry in this group, and one that almost slipped by me completely. An episode of a French TV documentary series, wherein different directors tackled singular historical figures and were granted more or less carte blanche, which is code for "Yes, of course there is dick and bush here as well" [excerpt] This being a post-TV Dante and post-Prospero's Books production, I assumed we were going to get a barrage of overlays and editing add-ons. But that's, surprisingly, not the case. It's actually presented in a very simple way, albeit rife with obtuse and revisionist angles as far as the script and narration are concerned. And here's again where I'd like to remind you that this man, this man who fucking HATES screenwriters, yup that guy... he's an excellent writer! He just is. And what's so bizarre is that, for all his complaints about the writerly cinema, he sure stuffs nearly all his films with a lot of words. Ah, but I digress for now. |
