🎙️ EPISODE 489: 06.14.22

Um, so yeah, we're straight cancelling The Birdcage (1996) here in the almighty year of our lord 2022. Sorry folks, but it just don't pass the WOKE test! Imagining someone with that take but they are being serious; I don't care to look for it, I'm just imagining. Let me have a little fun on this godforsaken show, JESUS. Helmed by the same dude who made The Graduate like a million years, O.G. Mike Nichols (Charlie Wilson's War, 2007), The B.C. is about how having gay parents is cringe and should be avoided at all costs. It's also about how appropriated Native American headdress fashion in the South Beach drag scene...

...and tricking the audience for one second that maybe Robin Williams is having an affair and is gonna hook-up with his own son (?)...

...and a good sampling of both overt and casual racism...

But despite all of its "OMG THIS DID NOT AGE WELL" moments, it does deliver in the Laffz Factory Dept. Like this genius deadpan Hackman...

...and this lil goof about the gay sex china bowls...

...and this here is just a lovely looking shot...

IDK, trying not to think about things too seriously: that's my bag, that's my speed these days. Also, my dog died in my arms a couple days ago. Any of y'all ever been through that? I don't recommend it!
