🎙️ EPISODE 514: 07.20.22 So I guess I'm reviewing single seasons of TV shows now, huh? The genius of Yellowjackets is how it teetered the line between being over the top and too salacious, and genuinely thrilling, mysterious and well-made. It also bucks the trend of Victim TV by having its group of (all female) protagonists embroiled in some deeply weird, ritualistic shit. This is a show about secrets. It doesn't matter whether or not they were forced to do bad things as teenagers, just that they will do anything in their power to stop those revelations from seeing the light of day as adults. I think some of the ancillary present day characters need solidifying in Season 2 and beyond, but the strength lies in the four leads and they're truly great. And despite nearly non-stop action in the first season, they left A LOT uncovered re the deeper mysteries. I look forward to seeing just how weird this gets, the further down it goes.

Yellowjackets is an American drama television series created by Ashley Lyle and Bart Nickerson. It stars an ensemble cast led by Sophie Nélisse, Jasmin Savoy Brown, Sophie Thatcher, and Sammi Hanratty as four teenagers involved in a plane crash in 1996, with Melanie Lynskey, Tawny Cypress, Juliette Lewis, and Christina Ricci portraying their adult counterparts. Ella Purnell, Steven Krueger, and Warren Kole also star in lead roles. The series premiered on Showtime. The series received critical acclaim, with praise for its story and cast performances. In December 2021, the series was renewed for a second season. It was released on November 14, 2021.
