🎙️ EPISODE 662: 03.10.23
Part of 2022 Week!

I'm not sure what I can add to the discourse around RRR, the massive and massively successful, meme-tastic 2022 epic, especially as someone who LIKED but didn't LOVE it. The Bollywood (or "Tollywood" — and I do my best to get into this discrepancy on the podcast) film is almost critic-proof to a degree. And sure that's a cop-out. The millions who've seen it, regardless of whether they enjoyed it or not, are perhaps outnumbered by those who simply know the dance sequence or CGI animal attack scene from YouTube. So, in this sense, its existence as a cultural 'thing' is at least as important (in terms of resonance) as its relevance/quality as a movie. And I'm not even judging unfairly on those terms, I don't believe; those are the best parts! And that's OK. If the story moved you on an emotional level in addition to the visceral WTF/LOL craziness, I think that's great. It never quite hit those marks for me, but I still had a blast for 3+ hours watching it.
