MOVIE #1,266 • 🍿 • 12.05.23 Hunter Hunter: the first movie to ask what's scarier than a bad looking CGI wolf? Perhaps… it's mankind itself, the wildest and most dangerous animal on the planet? Hmmm. Makes you think. There's A24 core and then there's Hulu core. Guess what this is? At 94% on Rotten Tomatoes, this has to be the most broken that site has ever been and definitive proof for its ineffectiveness on the whole because this is soooo bad. Plodding and uninteresting, I kept waiting for a twist that — while I wasn’t expecting much — never comes. The drone-laden, discordant soundtrack (that you've heard a million times) is occasionally all you notice in this movie, which feels half-awake even in its most intense moments. Hi, CGI wolf!...

I kept trying to figure out what was gonna happen — would missing dad Devin Sawa end up as the killer? maybe wounded stranger Nick Stahl would ‘become’ Sawa in a Lost Highway type situation — but no, it's just a half-assed film about a singular sociopath with next to no character development set at a staggered, broken pace. And don't get me started about the over-the-top, shitty alt rock torture porn ending that comes out of fucking nowhere! What the fuck was that??? This is how I felt by the end of it…
