MOVIE #1,088 • 🍿🍿🍿🍿🍿🍿 • 08.01.23 Part of My (impromptu) JULIA DUCOURNAU Director Focus The 00s aesthetic of bad alt/industrial lite rock music coupled with fast, frantic editing and a combo of overly muted and blown-out colors — which I’ve repeatedly stated is the worst aesthetic in film history — apparently didn’t make its way to France until the 2010s (kind of like how Titane sorta wants to look like Drive nearly a decade after the fact). So, in other words, we’re not off to the best start… |
No thanks.
Like Junior before it, this one more or less wears its metaphors on its sleeve. A bullied bulimic gets revenge on the high school mean girl in her early 30s and completely fucks up her own life in the process. What’s the point, you ask. Well, bulimia is bad (and sad) and bullying is definitely bad. So is getting revenge, I guess. I think this one is well-intentioned, ultimately, and there’s at least some character development. Two things I can’t say the same about for her next film.
And LOL at the jump-scare ending…
CHRONOLOGICALLY
