I find that I don’t have much to say/write about these Wiseman docs, and I think that’s by design in a way. The subject matter is so real and raw, and the succinct method of letting the footage do the talking (even though these pictures are cleverly edited) is meant to leave the audience in a continual state of processing. Much like how there were/are moments before and after the cameras rolled. These films are windows in a way that I really haven’t seen before. And this one, tackling the day-to-day of the Kansas City Police Department in 1969 is probably the best one yet, a totally engrossing portrait that’s obviously still prescient today.
