The Great Buddha Arrival

MOVIE #1,461 •🍿🍿🍿🍿🍿🍿🍿🍿🍿🍿• 03.20.24
Well, I’m back on my bullshit today and by bullshit I mean reviewing LOST FILMS. In this case: a pair of 1930s proto-kaijus from Japan. First up is The Great Buddha Arrival, wherein “The Great Buddha of Shugakuen in Ueno Village, Aichi Prefecture (currently Tokai City) opens its eyes and tours Nagoya City. After journeying through Hell, the Great Buddha rides in the clouds and heads for Tokyo.” It’s a bummer that this one’s lost because a 30s flick about a giant statue coming to life sounds awesome. One saving grace is that they actually remade this in 2018 (!) with the cooperation of the original director’s grandson. It will be awhile before we get to that kaiju but I honestly can’t wait.
