 | MOVIE #1,508 • 🍿🍿🍿🍿🍿 • 04.02.24 Margot Robbie plays a lady bank robber who gets shot in the leg and ends up in the barn of one of the Peaky Blinders. This has some really horrible narration but it looks mostly good. There's some stylish elements in the edit too, inserting 1:1 flashes of daydreams, inspirational imagery and whatnot. Robbie is such a star now it's interesting to see her in such a middling/forgotten flick from just a few years ago. Kerry Condon is here too in a total nothing role. This isn't a western but it has western vibes (1930s Texas). It feels like upper echelon Netflixcore: watchable in the moment but you'll forget everything about it in less than a week. Maybe moments and some of the general vibe will stick around a little longer, like The Searchers shot + sandstorm? |
Mr. Peaky Blinders thinks way too hard about whether or not to get in the shower with Margot Robbie when she invites him in. That scene is emblematic of why this film is broken, honestly. It's stilted and awkward, and filmed at what I assume they thought was an artsy angle, but none of it works. Anyway, boning her was enough to instantly turn him into the Clyde to her Bonnie and he kills a guy in a robbery the next morning. That scene is actually fun and it makes you wonder if this has ditched the narration and lost the first draft energy of the dialogue, it could have been a pretty solid movie.
