MOVIE #1,693 • 🍿🍿🍿🍿🍿🍿🍿 • 06.04.24 This is a solid, though at times rote crime flick: it’s the film that effectively launched the career of Peter Yates who would go onto make Bullitt (1968) and Breaking Away (1979) among others in a fairly prolific career. I liked it but not enough to rush Yates to the top of the list. There could have been a few more action sequences or they could have trimmed the fat on the various set-ups which are so mechanical and matter-of-fact that they’re honestly admirable (though still boring). Also, its attempt to set-up a home life story for lead Stanley Baker falls short and completely flat. When you see an actress (Joanna Pettet) with this little do, honestly why even bother? Things I did like: The beginning and end credits…

I’m a sucker for a good “The End” QUESTION MARK? ending.

And burning money is always good…

All the action is really great — I just wished there was more stuff like this...

The film was produced by Stanley Baker and Michael Deeley, for Baker's company Oakhurst Productions. It was released on September 21, 1967.
