Classic straight man, James Finlayson — who's shown up in most of these L&H shorts — plays a judge who freaks out when a killer he put in jail breaks out. Naturally, the first (Ollie) and second worst (Stan) detectives are put on the case to protect him. They’re scared of their own shadows. The criminal poses as the judge’s new butler (he doesn’t recognize him because he shaved, you see) and hijinks… they ensue. Despite the fairly strong set-up, the goofs and gags in this one are pretty mild. They end up subduing the bad guy when an African mask falls onto Finlayson’s head backwards and he thinks it’s a real ghost/monster or something…
