SERIES: FREDERICK WISEMAN DIRECTOR FOCUS
I struggle mightily with these docs where I don't immediately have an inroad to the subject matter: both in terms of the tangible, present-moment context and the larger political / historical landscape, like we see here. Still, Wiseman’s style makes them feel like part of the family so they’re not unpleasant to sit with.
I found this IMDb user review (the ONLY user review one that whole site, mind you) interesting…
That’s particular interesting when you consider these films as political statements and, if anything, it cements Wiseman’s own assertion that what he’s doing is NOT cinéma vérité.
