"Let Bi Gan be Bi Gan" is the joke I like to make. It's the kind of dumb joke that (I hope!) let's you know what you're getting here at moviejeff.com right off the bat: this damn squirrel (me) is not afraid to be silly, but he's also DEADLY serious about cinema. (I'm not sure how you would glean the second part of that from the joke, but let's move on, OK?)...
Bi Gan (毕赣, born 4 June 1989) is a Chinese film director, screenwriter, poet, and photographer. His first feature Tiger (2011) seems like it's impossible to track down. He's also responsible for Kaili Blues and Long Day's Journey into Night, both slow burns that are pretty good! (I like the latter slightly more.)
UPDATE 2025: Still can't find Tiger anywhere, but I did watch and review five short films by Bi Gan: South, The Poet and Singer, Secret Goldfish and his most recent efforts 2022's A Short Story and Shards of Moon, the former of which I think is my favorite thing he's done yet.
