🎙️ EPISODE 333: 03.02.2021

I can't recall a film–a documentary film, anyhow–which boeys between the comical and the heartbreaking such as Allan King's 1969 look into a the life of a failing marriage. This is cinema-verite in its truest form. You will at first ask yourself, how are they acting so natural in the presence of these cameras? before ending up on the question (more of a plea, perhaps): why are they acting so natural in the presence of these cameras? Early in the film when Billy and Antoinette Edwards essentially admit to one another that their ultimate goal in life is fame, the modern audience's reality TV-saturated brains will fire the warning flares. What is reality and what is acting? By the end, you'll find yourself wishing for producer-fed lines and clichè-filled, stilted testimonials.
