🎙️ EPISODE 199: 11.06.19 A period piece set in a remote colony of the Spanish Empire in South America. I find this type of film incredibly difficult to critique, generally, when they play it straight. But the final act of Zama, the fourth feature from Argentine director Lucrecia Martel, is certainly gut-wrenching in a way that transcends any genre, speaking to the human condition on both a micro and macro level simultaneously. It's worth it in the end. Oh, also, I wrote a song about this movie for some reason.
