MOVIE #1,138 • 🍿🍿🍿🍿🍿🍿 • 09.05.23 This is some sick puppy shit. The Sadness (a Taiwanese horror directed by a Canadian dude) is one of the bloodiest movies I've seen that isn't comedically so. In fact, it pushes the envelope right up to the edge of that line… that is until the president gets his mouth stuffed with a grenade on live TV and gets Scanner'd (see below). Luckily, a graphic blood orgy/gang rape (?) tilts it back the other way. Needless to say, there are some tonal issues ! Still, playing with the tired zombie concept here — these infected monsters can speak and seem to retain their memories in their new warped state — is somewhat novel. I’m not interested in any parallels to COVID, though. Sorry. One of the Taiwanese leads goes by the monosyllabic English name of Regina. That's interesting. |

It stars Berant Zhu and Regina as a Taiwanese couple who attempt to reunite amidst a viral pandemic that turns people into homicidal maniacs. It was released on January 22, 2021.
