🍿🍿🍿🍿🍿 | 🎙️ EPISODE 464: 05.11.22 * review starts ~17:50 Easily the most intriguing and 'official' of any of Paul Thomas Anderson's pre-feature work, this 1993 featuring Philip Baker Hall, in more or less the same role of Sydney that he'd reprise for Hard Eight, isn't great but it's definitely the most watchable. The story is VERY student film, focusing on a series of coincidences and connections to a $20 bill. It's plagued by similar issues which effected his debut, mostly awkward, forced, unnatural dialogue. Stacked up next to The Dirk Diggler Story, however, it's basically a masterpiece (and six minutes shorter!). And it's cool to see Miguel Ferrer going for it in a brief appearance and the guy who played Marvin in Reservoir Dogs is here too. |
