🎙️ EPISODE 474: 05.25.22

Well this was a breath of fresh air like you wouldn't believe. I think it's far too easy to dismiss this (or accept, for that matter) as a Guy Maddin rip-off, or even an homage; it's so much more than that, though there are stylistic similarities undoubtedly. The best compliment I can give is that every single scene, every FRAME, feels like it was poured over with such precision and so much love. This is a joyous movie, 90 minutes of pure cinematic bliss. For every moment of pure goofiness there is heart and exquisite detail in equal measure. I went in completely cold and it was by far the right move. So let me say no more here in this space. JUST GO WATCH IT. Don't watch the trailer; don't read anything. This is one I will be revisiting time and time again (I know). A Perfect 10/10 first feature film from Matthew Rankin. BRAVO!
