🎙️ EPISODE 491: 06.17.22 ραɾƚ σϝ ƚԋҽ ALEX GARLAND ԃιɾҽƈƚσɾ ϝσƈυʂ I don't think this show is great but it has a good vibe. It's going for it and that is so much more than you can say for [insert average mainstream example of content here]. In addition to my podcast comments/quips/HOT ASS TAKES about the Kenton and Jamie characters, let me also add that having the homeless dude become a Russian operative character was extremely Scooby-Doo-ish. But it does fall in line with the overall "Everyone be Simping for Lily" vibe that inhabits every other male performance. Talk about Men! Am I right?! They do be loving waifish encryption employees who subsequently end up being the embodiment of God HERself. Everything is about gender if you think about it, dudes — err, I mean DEUS.

All jokes aside, this is a messy series and the ideas come off looking too big for their britches ultimately, but it is still entertaining in that “smart shit for dumb guys” way which I really appreciate. The sets and the droney soundtrack with that repeating, vaguely ethnic/tribal whistle melody do most of the heavy lifting. Ron Swanson is fine. Sonoya Mizuno is fine. Let's have a Zach Grenier themed birthday party under the Golden Gate Bridge and come up with fan fiction for the nonexistent Season 2.
