I feel like I could watch this movie on a loop. It's such a fun, jam-packed, loose, informative, funny and oddly sweet 80 minutes of filmmaking. The perfect condensation of over 20 years of art from one of the absolute masters, effortlessly blending the mundane with the surreal, the real with the imagined, the detached with the personal, and the aesthetic with the content. "Lawless but safe." In the film within the film, Maddin himself, serving as narrator, states that perhaps he'll create a new genre with this experiment. I see this statement as something of a victory lap because, of course, he already has.

⫷ EPISODE 670 - (YOU ARE HERE) - EPISODE 672 ⫸

My Winnipeg is a 2007 Canadian film directed and written by Guy Maddin with dialogue by George Toles. Described by Maddin as a "docu-fantasia", that melds "personal history, civic tragedy, and mystical hypothesizing", the film is a surrealist mockumentary about Winnipeg, Maddin's home town. It was released on September 7, 2007.
