🎙️ EPISODE 707: 04.21.23                 This remains the biggest problem for me regarding this era: it's not the lack of sound, but the total lack of understanding for a world that's changed in nearly every possible way. Even though you know going in that the widest range of material — from gender roles to humor — isn't going to resemble current life AT ALL; even if you can compartmentalize this by first learning, or even becoming an expert in the timeframe; even if you simply ingest the content as if you're watching a play of space aliens... it will never fully replace the inherent — and mostly subconscious — desire to understand, and while, frankly, 100 years of life on earth is comparatively NOTHING in the grand scheme of things, it turns out that it's enough to cripple said understanding.

Perhaps something magical does indeed happen in the transition to the talkies. There's only two more of these to get through before we find out.
