| The above is how this absolutely bonkers Soviet sci-fi/slapstick, fourth wall breaking comedy romp begins. Part Benny Hill/part proto-Tim and Eric, all INSANE. This fish-out-of-water time travel farce is at its best when it's playing with jokes on a purely visual level. Fired out of a cannon, it eventually loses steam (the schtick wears thin by the fourth musical number) . Still an extremely wacky sub-90 minute oddity that's worth a watch. |

In the United States the film has sometimes been sold under the title Ivan Vasilievich: Back to the Future. This film is based on the play Ivan Vasilievich by Mikhail Bulgakov. It was one of the most attended films in the Soviet Union in 1973, with more than 60 million tickets sold. It was released on September 17, 1973.
