MOVIE #1,115 • 🍿🍿🍿🍿🍿🍿🍿🍿🍿 • 08.18.23 This was surprisingly good and really well put-together, featuring a mix of dramatic recreations with a barrage of footage from the J. Fox archives that coincided with each arc of his life (even if the movies/shows themselves were unrelated). A really ambitious task that’s tremendously edited. (Vaguely reminded me of Los Angeles Plays Itself in a roundabout way, though there are probably better examples.) The Parkinson’s/current day stuff is sad and I was worried this would be too tough to watch, but that’s handled really nicely too. It also doesn’t inflate or mythologize the man or his work given those realities. The fact is that he was once one of the hottest/most famous actors and they treat that part of his story as such while always keeping a safe distance. He’s a funny, good-natured, flawed guy and all of that shines through, both in his current struggles and during the recollection. I watched this on a whim but I definitely recommend it. |
