50 MOVIES IN 32 DAYS!

With a 7% RT score, I think this one might be considered the worst of the franchise? Again we begin with a literal replaying of the events of the previous films: a full five minutes worth before the opening credits! This one is most notable for being the franchise’s lone “3D” entry, which — it being Part III and all — was just too sweet for the marketing exploits. Watching this at home in a decidedly “un-3D” environment, the parts specifically engineered for that mode are jarring and often inconsequential moments, like a child lifting a baseball bat close to the camera. But there are fun kills which utlize the tech as well, like the legitimately cool spear-gun shot…

And the significantly less cool (but funny) eye pop sequence…

The first two sequels feel like imitations, each a little worse than the preceding installment with exponentially diminishing returns. But the tone, plot and pacing are pretty much identical. I am excited to see Crispin Glover dance in Part 4!

Friday the 13th Part III is a 1982 American slasher film directed by Steve Miner, produced by Frank Mancuso Jr., and starring Dana Kimmell, Paul Kratka, and Richard Brooker. It is the sequel to Friday the 13th Part 2 (1981) and the third installment in the Friday the 13th franchise. Set directly after the events of the previous films, the plot follows a teenage girl (Kimmell) and her friends who go on a trip to a house near Crystal Lake where a wounded Jason Voorhees (Brooker) has taken refuge until reemerging for another killing spree. The film marks the first appearance of Jason's signature hockey mask, which has since become a trademark of both the character and the franchise, as well as an icon in American cinema and the horror genre in general. It was released on August 13, 1982.
