MOVIE #1,327 • 🍿🍿🍿🍿🍿🍿🍿🍿🍿 • 01.29.24 This is the centerpiece of Anderson's four Roald Dahl shorts he made for Netflix in 2023. The likely live-action short form favorite at the Oscars, is the longest and probably best of the bunch. I really enjoyed all of these movies and they feel like an anthology feature that really works. There's a simplicity to the aesthetics here that, while certainly in the wheelhouse, feels fresh. It might not be easy to see at first glance but — like he did with the narrative in Asteroid City — Wes is trying new things. And the new players in the mix — Benedict Cumberbatch, Ben Kingsley, Richard Ayoade and Dev Patel — are all welcome additions. |
