MOVIE #1,372 • 🍿🍿🍿🍿🍿🍿🍿🍿🍿 • 02.14.24 𝑀𝒶𝓇𝓉𝓎: A MARTIN SCORSESE DIRECTOR FOCUS 🇮🇹🇺🇸 One thing people don’t discuss a lot when they’re talking about Scorsese is how he loved to use punctuation in the titles of his NYU student films. First a ? and now a ! Marty, you ole dog. This is a very good and very funny short and much of what makes the Martdog great is already present. The titular Murray is such a classic Scorsese character. Kind of evil, kind of aloof, just wants his mom to bring him spaghetti in prison. The cold glances of these people in his life are so artificial. They really encapsulate that vague, droning fear of the other, even those closest to you. “We are very happy people,” he explains, after a meta turn when he asks them to cut the sound of the movie as his best pal Joe’s explaining he's really the father of his kids. The Fantastical and kooky ending dance sequence in a dilapidated field in some dump outside New York is so good. Watch it on YouTube right now! |
