MovieJeff on Motern: A FARLEY/ROXBURGH DIRECTOR FOCUS

This is the full descent from the Mayor Matt Farley character in the first film to simply Farley here, if we're to believe they're one in the same, and let's! Because it's more fun to think about Matt Farley playing the same character also named Matt Farley who happens to get more and more deranged with each subsequent movie.

The amount of extraneous information in the dialogue is obviously a joke (and it's really ramped up here) but it's the kind of joke that's (also) impossible to parse. It necessitates something of a leap of faith to get onboard, but it's rewarding if you fully submit to it. There are more obvious (‘real’) jokes, as well, like repeating what the narrator just said…

These moments work in tandem with the seemingly impenetrable, unnecessarily layered plotting. In my eyes, even at this still relatively early stage, they’ve transitioned away from anything resembling twee vibes into their own highly cultivated (and highly original) style.

CHRONOLOGICALLY
⫷ MOVIE #1,454 - (YOU ARE HERE) - MOVIE #1,456 ⫸

An evil Druid warlord resurrects a young man and transforms him into a wicked superhero. With the help of a nice young woman, the superhero eventually begins to question his diabolical beliefs. As if his hands weren't full enough with his study of good and evil, he also has to deal with the confusion caused by his clone, the beasts of The Druid Gladiator Match, and, of course, the scheming Druid warlord. This was released on October 12, 2003.
