MOVIE #1,426 • 🍿🍿🍿🍿🍿🍿🍿 • 03.08.24 How much of this is really in service of outing the obvious scam vs. existing solely to showcase the highly entertaining Patrick J. Pespas as he gets to play Michael Moore is a legitimate question. At times, the latter makes it feel like a goof despite having legitimate grievances and real proof. You get the feeling like this is gonna go nowhere pretty early on. So this is clearly more of a character study than an exposé, regardless of intention. And that's fine. Pespas is a likable and intriguing presence, whether he's punching above his weight in awkward interviews or simply hanging around being himself. Sure, would it have been nice to hang out with all these guys for three hours AND see them take down the industry in the end? Of course. Telemarketers is still informative and eye-opening even if justice isn't served. I'm just not sure how the edit could have improved upon things but it feels like a piece that has one foot in two separate tonal areas. |
