MOVIE #1,564 • 🍿🍿🍿🍿🍿🍿🍿 • 04.23.24 The archival footage (home movies rendered in monochrome) is the reason this project probably exists and it is interesting to go back and forth in time, but it feels a little slight, not gimmicky per say but the lingering fact that the juxtaposition seems to be this selling point is difficult to ignore. I think I just wanted more from the origin story about what went into the decision to rob the bank in the first place (not that it matters in terms of the social/political points that the movie is making, but from a story standpoint — they had to acquire firearms, make a plan, etc.). Also, the sorta limo sex scene after he's released was just weird! Sorry to be a prude. These are deeply religious people who are also horny and drop the R-word casually. Their flaws are on equal footing with their best qualities (grace, loyalty) and that's important to see. |
