MOVIE #1,763 • 🍿🍿🍿🍿🍿🍿🍿🍿🍿 • 06.26.24 𝙳𝙸𝚁𝙴𝙲𝚃𝙾𝚁 𝙵𝙾𝙲𝚄𝚂: 𝙵𝚁𝙴𝙳𝙴𝚁𝙸𝙲𝙺 𝚆𝙸𝚂𝙴𝙼𝙰𝙽 This is the longest Wiseman feature yet, clocking in at close to 2.5 hours. He’s really leaning into and honing his style here — which seemed fully formed out of the gate, but the films just keep getting better — and the longer length totally works. Juvenile Court is his most engaging and also his most devastating movie yet. When a little kid is asked, “Was there any reason your dad would pour hot grease on you?” I sincerely wanted to cry. Some of the threads are (mildly) resolved, but most just drift into the ether: a stark reminder that this will likely be a lifelong struggle for these children. I'm still in awe of the pure access he's both been granted and able to capture in such a naturalistic way. I always look forward to watching his pictures. |
