MOVIE #1,704 • 🍿🍿🍿🍿🍿🍿🍿🍿 • 06.07.24 宮崎駿監督のフォーカス This one seems like a lesser Miyazaki at first glance but I appreciated how weird and different it was from all the rest. I think it helped that I watched the English-dubbed version which features none other than Michael Keaton in the titular voice role of Porco Rosso. This is essentially a movie about a pig's unhealthy attraction to a 17yo human girl and, though it’s a period piece, some of its gender politics are bonkers (see below). It has some of the most quotable lines, like “I’d rather be a pig, than a fascist” (get it, because he IS a pig). And while Keaton sort of seems like he’s phoning it in, that also works for the vibe of this character… |
I liked this fake movie poster a lot…
It’s an odd one, for sure. But highly enjoyable.
